Hopeless by Elsie Silver
My 5-star review of Hopeless by Elsie Silver. This was my favorite in the Chestnut Springs series. Beau and Bailey are both troubled characters…
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
This was my favorite in the Chestnut Springs series. There are SPOILERS in this review so if you haven’t read the book yet maybe don’t continue.
Beau and Bailey are both troubled characters.
Beau is a military hero who has just finished that part of his career and now has to adjust to life as a civilian. He is finding that the life he always planned to have on his family’s ranch is not what he expected and he is conflicted with not wanting to disappoint them and at the same time wanting to do something he is happy with. On top of that his last mission did not go smoothly and he seemingly struggles with some PTSD from that actual event (not an official medical diagnosis either from me or in the book just what I am calling for this review) and then also is overwhelmed by the recognition he receives from the townsfolk.
Bailey is family to the town delinquents and that appears to have impacted most facets of her life to the point where she cannot even get a second job because nobody will hire her due to the association with that clan and worries that her mere presence will be bad for business. While she isn’t making much progress on advancing her future in Chestnut Springs, she doesn’t let it deter her and she forges ahead with her plans to get out of town and improve her life.
Beau, who has found little of interest since returning from service, finds that Bailey is one of the first things to excite him in a long time. For reasons that you should learn by reading the book and not by reading this review, Beau and Bailey enter into a fake engagement. As you can imagine while they are busy pretending to be engage they actually catch feelings for real.
Although this is what I would consider a sweet romance, there are some graphic sex scenes, innuendos etc.
